Three albums and multiple eps and splits later, crossover saviours Iron Reagan continue to pummel eardrums with the same intensity of their very first demo from 2012. So you know exactly what to expect from this new split release with label mates Gatecreeper, high-speed and cranium-crushing thrash-metal merged with a punk rawness and the fury of hardcore. It’s all too brief, lasting no more than ten minutes so the Virginia band makes effective use of each of the five songs with nearly every track sounding like a nasty beating from a rampaging bouncer.
Gatecreeper’s songs are equally heavy, albeit in a different manner. Although I’m not familiar with their previous efforts it seems that the Arizona five-piece group follow in the grand footsteps of Bolt Thrower, churning out a nasty death metal less focused on speed or technicality and more on slow, chugging riffs that sound like heavy artillery discharges. It’s catchy, vicious and downright heavy so if you’re fan of bands like the aforementioned Bolt Thrower and Obituary you’ll surely enjoy Gatecreeper as well.(8/10)
